The Convenience of Self Adhesive Foam Board

Foam core is a great material to use for most craft projects because it is affordable, thick, easy to cut, and durable. Improving on this material even more though is the creation of self adhesive foam board. Indeed, this material allows you to still reap the benefits of foam core with the added bonus of having a pre-made sticky backing. This saves a lot of hassle in gluing the boards together because they fit just as a sticker would.

Self adhesive boards do not seem much different from regular ones, except for the peel-able backing. If you pull that off as you would a stamp, you can see that there is a tape-like stickiness on the back of the board. This adhesive is very strong and will work well on most flat surfaces. You can stick the board to another board, or you could put it on something else, like a wall, a piece of furniture, or an art piece.

These boards can be great to use for projects where you need the foam core to be thicker than it actually is. You can easily adhere two layers to one another by either putting the sticky sides together or just putting one sticky side to the regular side of the other board. It just depends on what you need the bottom of the board to be, flat or adhesive.

You can still cut self adhesive board as you normally would, but you may need to change your knife blade more often than normal. This is because the sticky substance may gunk up on the blade in time, just like your scissors do after you cut tape for a while. Blades are affordable and easy to change out, so this factor should not be much of a worry.

You can still glue this kind of foam core together. You just have one less side to worry about. If you do not want that side to be sticky, you can put a standard poster on it and make the top whatever color you want. You could even put an art poster on top to make it thick and three-dimensional. Just be sure to lay it down slowly so you push out any bubbles that may form. Those will be hard to get out otherwise. Use a ruler like a squeegee if you want to, and you should be able to achieve the flat surface you are going for.
