If you need a great material for some sort of craft project, you may think of investing in some foam poster board. Foam core is incredibly affordable, and it is versatile enough to use in any project. It is comprised of a layer of hard foam between two sheets of poster board, making it easy to cut and mark on. Working with this material is not hard at all, if you know what you are doing, so read the guide below for some helpful tips.

Cutting the Foam Board

The best way to cut foam core is with a box knife and a metal ruler. Make a few marks where you need your cut to be and then lay your ruler flat along the marks. Take your craft knife and cut along the edge of the ruler, making sure to hold the ruler in place. Come directly down on the board because it is really easy to cut at an angle this way. You will not notice that on the top, but you will see a diagonal line along the width.

You need to make sure that the knife you use is sharp because that helps keep the edges nice and crisp. Simply replace the razor blade before you start cutting away, and if you notice the edges are starting to fray, change the blade again.

Special Cuts for Foam Core

You can actually buy something called a rabbit cutter, which will allow you to cut off just one layer of poster and foam. The bottom poster for the board remains the same length so when you put two piece together at a 90 degree angle, the foam for the not cut board is covered up. You will not have any foam showing that way, making it great for times when you need seamless lines.

Writing on Foam Posters

Most foam posters have a sheen about them that makes them difficult to write on with pen. The ink will hover for a minute and smear if you do not allow it to dry. You can try using a pencil instead, bit your eraser marks may leave a weird smudge on the board. If you have a quick drying marker, that may be your best option to use. Get a scrap piece of board to experiment on before you start messing up the face of the board.

Gluing Foam Pieces Together

Most craft glues will work just fine with foam core. Use some painter’s tape or masking tape to hold the pieces in place while they dry, and then just pull them up when everything has set. You can also cut the boards so they interlock on their own, eliminating the need for glue altogether. Just buy a few of these inexpensive posters to play around with and you should get the hang of working with them pretty fast.

If you are planning any remodeling than includes adding on to an existing structure, you may wish to consider using foam board insulation in your construction plans.

Obviously, adding some form of insulation to an exterior wall or roof is necessary not only for saving money on heating and cooling costs, but in many cases to meet local building codes. The amount of insulation required for your project can depend a great deal on your location since many states have minimum requirements for thermal resistance.

The R-value listed for any type of insulation is a rating that refers to the resistance of the material to thermal conductivity. While the actual formula involves the temperature differential and the heat flux (transfer), for all practical purposes it is sufficient to think of the R-value as a resistance to thermal change in the same way that a resistor restricts current in an electrical circuit. To carry the analogy one step further, if you place two resistors in series the total resistance is achieved by adding their values together. The same is true of R-values in foam insulation; two thicknesses of R-4 foam board, properly installed, is the equivalent of R-8 insulation.

The R-value for foam board insulation is typically R-4 per inch, which means that one inch of insulation is approximately the equivalent of a 4-inch thickness of wood, which has a rating of R-1.

Foam board can be more expensive that other types of insulation, but is very useful in applications where space is an issue, and a high R-value is required. Space is an important consideration in planning insulation. Increasing the density of a fibrous insulator, for example, by forcing double the amount than is recommended into a given space, will not double its ability to insulate.

Applications for foam board use include roofs, exterior above ground walls, and basement walls, in which the best use is on the interior of the cinder block. Placing the foam on the interior of the basement helps to isolate it from ground insects that could bore into it, compromising its effectiveness.

It is important in to remember that when applying the foam boards, the seams must be fitted tightly together and sealed. This is to help prevent unintended circulation and thereby moisture problems within the walls.

The primary ingredients in foam insulation are generally some form of polystyrene or polyurethane. One form of polystyrene that is used is molded expandable (MEPS) polystyrene. While there are other formulations, the base materials are generally similar and exist in many forms of insulation.

Foam board is very easy to cut and shape, light, and generally easy to work with. Look into the ways foam board insulation might fit into your next home construction project.

If you are in the mood for some sort of craft project, you may want to explore the use of foam core board. This is basically a sandwich of poster board that has a soft foam center. This makes the board thick, but still very easy to cut through. The poster exterior is easy to write on if need be, so you can make cut marks or do whatever you would normally do with this kind of material. There are several projects that could utilize foam core, but we have a few of them listed below.

Architecture students often use foam board to make models out of. This is because the board is affordable and easy to cut with a box knife. Some boards come with grids on the top of them so students have an easy pattern to follow for geometric shapes. You may be able to do something similar in your own life if you want to make a model of a house for your children to play with. All you need is a design, some cutting materials, and glue to put it all together.

You can use foam core to fill gaps in different situations. If you need padding between the wall and a piece of furniture, you can slip a piece of the board in for a cushioned support. If you have a decorative element that you do not want to scratch your furniture, you can cut a piece of the board to use as a barrier between the two things. Anywhere you have a space that needs to be filled; this material could likely come in handy.

There is a bunch of different colors of foam poster boards out there, which makes them perfect for decorations. You can cut up different shapes to glue together as an art piece, or you could use the board to frame a picture of yours. Foam is great to tact stuff into, so you could actually turn a piece of this material into a message board if you wanted to. The design potential is entirely up to your mind.

Whether you want to try a new craft out or you just have a need for something soft yet durable, foam core board can save the day. This highly affordable material can be found in some local craft shops, but ultimately the best place to get it is online. There you will find the widest variety and the lowest prices.

Foam core is a great material to use for most craft projects because it is affordable, thick, easy to cut, and durable. Improving on this material even more though is the creation of self adhesive foam board. Indeed, this material allows you to still reap the benefits of foam core with the added bonus of having a pre-made sticky backing. This saves a lot of hassle in gluing the boards together because they fit just as a sticker would.

Self adhesive boards do not seem much different from regular ones, except for the peel-able backing. If you pull that off as you would a stamp, you can see that there is a tape-like stickiness on the back of the board. This adhesive is very strong and will work well on most flat surfaces. You can stick the board to another board, or you could put it on something else, like a wall, a piece of furniture, or an art piece.

These boards can be great to use for projects where you need the foam core to be thicker than it actually is. You can easily adhere two layers to one another by either putting the sticky sides together or just putting one sticky side to the regular side of the other board. It just depends on what you need the bottom of the board to be, flat or adhesive.

You can still cut self adhesive board as you normally would, but you may need to change your knife blade more often than normal. This is because the sticky substance may gunk up on the blade in time, just like your scissors do after you cut tape for a while. Blades are affordable and easy to change out, so this factor should not be much of a worry.

You can still glue this kind of foam core together. You just have one less side to worry about. If you do not want that side to be sticky, you can put a standard poster on it and make the top whatever color you want. You could even put an art poster on top to make it thick and three-dimensional. Just be sure to lay it down slowly so you push out any bubbles that may form. Those will be hard to get out otherwise. Use a ruler like a squeegee if you want to, and you should be able to achieve the flat surface you are going for.

If you need to insulate some part of your home, you may want to invest in rigid foam insulation. There are a number of benefits to using this particular form of insulation in comparison to other options. Listed below are a few reasons why you may use rigid foam in your home.

As a whole, rigid insulation can provide a moisture barrier to prevent mold and mildew in your walls. It works great on doors, studs, windows and the like. No matter what room of the house you need insulation in; the rigid foam should do wonders to protect against moisture. It is particularly beneficial in basements where that sort of situation is most likely to build up. It could be the solution to all of your problems.

There are three different types of rigid foam to choose form, but they are all incredibly durable. Some less sturdy insulation must be replaced every decade or so because it loses its strength. Rigid foam is different. It can last for an incredibly long time as long as you take care of it. It may cost a little more than other materials initially, but you will save money with this option in the long run.

When you install this foam in your home, it is heated to mold to your walls. This means that you get a tailor fit glove of protection so that the insulation works to its full potential. During the heating and expanding process, moisture from the walls is absorbed ad removed, making the chances for trapped in mold very unlikely. If you live in a humid climate, this will make a huge difference in your home.

Rigid foam is great for keeping the heat or coolness in your home when it needs to. Acting just as a thermal mug might, this insulation makes sure that your house remains as close to the temperature you want as possible. This will save you a lot of energy costs over time because you are not losing your heat or air conditioning to the outside world. The materials in your walls are lined so they will not conduct those temperatures in the future.

Believe it or not, this insulation may actually add structural integrity to your house. The hard shell that the insulation creates adds a new layer of support for all of the walls. This makes your storm less susceptible to damage in face of a harmful weather event. Who would have imagined all of that would come from something as simple as foam?

If you enjoy creating craft or art projects, you might find using a foam poster board a different approach to take in crafting. The boards are thicker than the traditional cardboard used for poster display items. You can easily place pins, tacks or other items used to secure materials into the boards. They can be used for art projects in schools or home. You can glue items to the surface, paint on the surface or cut the board with a sharp utility knife to create a new dimension. They can also be used as backing for picture frames.

These particular boards are also popular for use in presentations. They are stiff enough to be placed on an easel for easy viewing by everyone in the room. The design is such that it resists warping and bending. Some can be found constructed of recycled materials. This is beneficial if you or your company is trying to be more environmentally conscious in the products they use. They travel well so you can transport them without fear of creasing, bending or even breaking your project or presentation.

They are often used in lobbies to display or announce a particular event or item. The foam poster board also works for creating school projects. The student can attach items to the board, which will be secure because the board has a thickness of 1/2 to 3/4 inches. The boards are generally sold in packages of 10, but can be found in packages of 2 as well. They are available in the 20 by 30 size or the 30 by 40 size.

The foam thickness of the board works well for conventions and exhibits as well. In addition to being able to attach items to the board you can also write or draw on it. This is a convenient way to point people in the direction of your display booth at a trade show. Because the product is available in different colors, you can use your imagination to create your own unique designs. You can find the boards at most office supply stores or craft outlets and they are generally priced from $30 to $70.

Research has shown, and it is just common sense, that encouraging your kids with both academic and creative schoolwork (and extracurricular work) helps their development. This is clearly a good thing, as to help your children engage in creative activities and to ensure they receive a well-rounded education will help provide a basis for succeeding in later life.

If you are already of that opinion, you are probably used to helping them with craftwork. This means that you no doubt have come across a foam poster board before to use in their craft projects – but have you considered how inexpensive it would be to make your own foam board out of a standard poster board? It is actually a simple process, which you can quickly do yourself. The main work will be completed in minutes, and then it is just simply a matter of waiting for the glue to properly dry.

1: Firstly you’ll need a sharp craft knife – clearly if you’re helping the children make the foam poster board, then this is a part you should do yourself. You need to slice the form (which can be colored or plain white, depending on what you are planning to use it for) in exactly the same size as the baseboard you previously bought.

2: Lay the board down on a flat surface such as a kitchen table. Properly cover the board with the craft glue and ensure that the glue goes right into the corners and sides (this can get a little messy, so make sure you cover the table before starting).

3: Gently position the foam on top of the freshly glue-covered surface and make sure that it is properly lined up before pressing down to make good contact with the board. Place heavy objects, such as hardback books on top of the foam to make sure that, as it is drying, it makes a good seal.

That is the whole process. Most craft glue takes a little while to dry, so check the bottle as to exactly how long this will be. When it is dry, simply remove the books and it will be ready to use it in your (or your kids) craft project.

If you enjoy creating craft or art projects you might find using a foam poster board a different approach to take in crafting. The boards are thicker than the traditional cardboard used for poster display items. You can easily place pins, tacks or other items used to secure materials into the boards. They can be found at most office supply stores and craft outlets. They are available in different sizes to fit what your particular need is.

These particular boards are also popular for use in presentations. They are stiff enough to be placed on an easel for easy viewing by everyone in the room. The foam board design is such that it resists warping and bending.

If you are renting a banquet hall for a wedding or bridal shower, you could letter the foam poster board announcing your party and attach balloons, photos and ribbons to it. Then the announcement sign would be placed on an easel in the lobby area of where you are holding your event. It would make an attractive and easy to understand sign for your guests to follow. When the event is over you can retrieve the photo image if you desire to have it back.

This same display announcement idea works for business conventions and exhibits as well. It is a convenient way to point people in the direction of your display booth at a trade show. Because the product is available in different colors, you can use your imagination to create your own unique designs. You can find the boards in sizes from 20 by 30 inches and 30 by 40 inches in 10 count packages generally priced from $30 to $70. They also make great surfaces for building school projects and signs.
